This was before payments was included in the decision making. Here I focused on how a user would dive into viewing invoices, any disputes and confirming payments of invoices. Wireframes were apart of the process in discovering how to process user flows, so wires were used as key parts in the flows. Wires created were focused on a broader overview of how invoices would work without payments before combining the two categories together. In this process, I took user requirements from our stakeholders/BAs to understand what was needed first. In completing Mexico’s design work there were way more requirements for features that were asked for. I ended up creating wireframes/mini flows for the ability to apply a refund to the customer’s account, updating the customer profile usability, and how to apply a missing payment to the customer’s account, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what new features I needed to build out. Working in an agile method, I first gathered requirements from my PM by her documenting in a Google doc spec, then translated those requirements into UX wireframes. Understanding at a higher level the user’s current process of functionality to meet the new requirements. Users wanted clearer visual indicators to show document failures, process status, and selfie tips. They also requested the ability to save progress if interrupted. To reduce cognitive overload from a lengthy process, I focused on minimizing screens and providing clear, written and visual guidance to prevent errors. A drop-off screen was added to show incomplete steps, and users were given the flexibility to upload documents in any order. For mobile, it was only certain UI elements such as colors and icons that was to be updated. I also with the help of in-country market teams, wrote UX copy that was easier to understand. I collaborated with data scientists and one product manager to gather information for dashboard program, Looker. This feature was technically complex due to integration with a third-party platform and extensive backend API calls. I designed separate flows for three user types: Power Lenders (trusted users who bypassed Plaid), new users, and current Borrowers. Most fraud concerns involved new users. It was later revised after realizing the complexity could lead to user drop-off. With these screens I was able to explore the option of messaging to the user base, notifying the users where in the process they were, how drop-offs would work if a user chose that process, what does the UI look for the difference between the Power Lenders versus everyone else. Gentle reminders were added when users tapped “request” or “fund loan,” guiding them through the full process: SoLo app → Plaid (bank connection) → SoLo app (debit card connection). If users dropped off after connecting Plaid, they couldn’t proceed until adding a debit card. This time around, United wanted to shed it’s usage of the purple colors and get back to basics with feelin’ blue again. United partnered with a local Chicago design agency to craft an all new branding experience. Giving the United Blue a jazzy modern update along with all it’s color companions. With this new rebranding also comes with wrangling the mobile design system to be more uniformed. Before, the mobile design system got out of hand with one off components and color usages. A lack of consistency throughout the app made parts of the flows feel different from one another. Atmos, the Design System team at United, wanted to make sure consistency is key this time around. Believe me, I was happy to not have to deal with that design blasphemy of a program any longer. I created each component from scratch in Figma (IYKYK) and resized correctly to account for mobile device sizes and their respective system guidelines. Using the Atomic Design foundations, I broke up the native mobile design system into atoms, molecules and organisms. Things like buttons would live under molecules while things like the cart experience would live as an organism. Both Android and iOS system components lived within one Figma for ease of flipping between each system type. New components were applied to the most complex B2C app flows, including introducing features like full-page modals and card formatting for better screen readability. Collaborating with the Atmos team and leadership, ideas were presented and approved, while mobile developers received Zeplin handoffs and support during implementation. Beyond UI, UX functionality issues were assessed across teams, especially in outdated flows. I coordinated with 20+ designers to ensured alignment, with the rebrand work serving as a foundation for guiding future design practices and consistent component use across the app through 2024–2025. I was the last team member added to a high-pressure project and had just 2 months to design a fully functioning flight booking product—from the search homepage to post-booking flow.
